Can I Live a Sinless Life?

Text:   Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

I.          What is sin?

Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Romans 10:17 17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Example – John 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

II.        Did Jesus Sin?

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

John 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

III.       Was it possible for Jesus to have sinned?  (Why ask this question?)

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

Hebrews 4:15-16 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 2:14-18 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. 17Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

IV.       How did Jesus Keep from Sinning – He strove against it to the point of Hematidrosis

Hebrews 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. (Hematidrosis)

Luke 22:39-44 39And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. 40And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. 41And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. 43And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. 44And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

*Lust – the propensity to commit sin

V.        We can do the Same – We have God in us.  The

Colossians 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

He had an Angel - Luke 22:43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him

We get Him - Hebrews 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

VI.       the devil does not make us do it.

1 John 4:4 4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
