Emily’s Question:  How Do You Love God

1 Cor. 8:1-3

I.          As touching things offered to idols.

II.        All have knowledge.  We all have an opinion on this particular subject.

III.       Knowledge versus Charity

A.        In our own conceits

Proverbs 26:12 12Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

Proverbs 26:16 16The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

Romans 12:16 16Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

B.        Knowledge does something to us.  Charity does something for others

C.        Knowledge builds up self.  Charity builds up others.

D.        Charity and knowledge (as mentioned here) cannot cohabitate.  1 Cor 13 “is not puffed up”

IV.       If you think you know anything, you don’t know anything as you ought to know it.

V.        1 Corinthians 8:3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

IV.       These things will happen if you love God

A.        You will Love your Brother

1 John 4:19-21 19We love him, because he first loved us. 20If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

B.        You will keep Jesus’ commandments

John 14:21 21He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

C.        Other’s will know it

1 Corinthians 8:3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

VII.     Do you have to love God to go to Heaven?

VI.       If …

A.        You do not love your Brother, then …

B.        You do not keep Jesus Commandments, then…

C.        It is not known that you love God, then…
