I. Continually
Ephesians 5:17- 20 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
II. Daily goal – Be filled, Pray always, Read God’s Word
Daily cannot be stored up
Hebrews 3:13 13But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. (Daily means cannot store it up an do it all on weekend)
A. Pray
Psalm 88:9 Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.
B. Crucify Self
Luke 9:23 23And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 1 Corinthians 15:31 31I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
C. Read God’s Word
Acts 17:11 11These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
III. Weekly goal – Give (upon the first day of the week)
1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
IV. Monthly Goal – Go to every service Acts 5:42 42And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 10:24 through Hebrews 10:25 24And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
V. 18 years to raise your children
A. David did not 1. His son Amnon raped his daughter Tamar. 2. His son Absalom killed his son Amnon 3. His son Absalom led a rebellion against his own dad
B. Eli’s sons Hophni and Phinehas took advantage of the people at the gate by taking their sacrifices before they were offered - 1 Sam 2:12-17 and
1 Samuel 2:22-25 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 23And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people. 24Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD’S people to transgress. 25If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall entreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.
C. Samuel’s Sons
1 Samuel 8:1-3 1And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel. 2Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba. 3And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
VI. 50 or 60 years to work on your marriage
A. No one had a great marriage
1. Abraham and Sarah 2. Isaac and Rebecca 3. Jacob and his 4 4. David and his several B. Everything changed after Ephesians 5 was written
VII. Lifetime to be faithful – follow. How about even ask for direction much less follow
John 8:29 29And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
