Failure to Discipline Your Children Using God’s Methods
Text: Eph. 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Intro: We discipline. We do not punish or bring judgment upon our children. (use dog and electric shock as example.)
Definitions
Admonish – to caution or advise, to mildly warn or notify of a fault
Charge – to entrust
Chasten - To correct by inflicting pain. One method in bringing about proper discipline.
Comfort – Strengthen or Cheer
Discipline – Training to ensure proper behaviour broad heading.
Exhort – To move to action by words or advise
Nurture – To educate, to train
Punish – To impose penalty by inflicting pain
Reprove – To charge or convince of a fault to the face

A. Training/nurture
Prov. 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

B. Charge – Entrust
1 Thess. 2:11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,
C. Exhort/Comfort –

D. Admonish/Reprove –
Prov. 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

E. Chasten –
Prov. 22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Prov. 23:13-14 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. 14Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
Heb. 12:6-8 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
