11-01-09 1 Cor Message 11: Our Abilities in God's Hands

Our Abilities in God’s Hands

Verse 18

I.         The possession of worldly wisdom is an impediment to Godly wisdom.  You must reckon your worldly wisdom foolishness before you can move into the realms of Godly wisdom.

II.        Worldly wisdom has its place.  It is a means to an end.  If a Christian thinks his/her worldly abilities or knowledge or skills somehow gives them a superior spiritual edge over others, they have created their own road block to becoming spiritual.

Eg.      God gives a Mom aho quit school at age 13 the ability to comfort her baby when no one else can.  God gives a brain surgeon the ability to cut out the bad and leave the good, but in both cases those abilities are simply skills with which we may or may not serve God, they in and of themselves, in no way open a door to Truth to the enabled.

Verse 19

III.       The ability to win every argument, to always have the advantage due to your keen cunning does not impress God but it will be tool with which God brings you to your knees.

Verse 20

IV.      All the stuff in the head of the wise man is vain.  It is just as vain as a man who has a device that can turn water into whisky.  However, what if the same apparatus if placed into the hands of the King can repair cancer cells to their healthy condition.

Verse 21-22

V.        Back to divisions.  All these men are given to anyone whose lives they touch.  When you hear someone teach or preach, the message is for you.

VI.      In fact, everything is ours.  Like a child at home.  I want my own kitchen, cup water supply etc.

Verse 23

VIII.    We are not our own.
