Why Search the Scripture on Raising Children
Text: Judges 2:6-13
I. It does not come naturally – nothing Godly comes naturally
Prov. 14:12 12There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Prov. 14:11 11The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
1 Tim 3:4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
II. The Climate has changed – (It is an anomaly if children did not behave today if they do.)
2 Tim. 3:1-5 1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
III. We have a serious problem; we are in Hosea 4:6 see verse 7 with Prov. 17:6
If we follow the Word, it does not have to hit our house.
IV. It matters It may be the most important thing you do – These are our Children
Prov. 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
Prov. 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Deut. 4:9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;
We are responsible for teaching them the things of God
