1-13-10 Sorrell: Things in this Life Things In This Life
I. Verse 1 - The question is detailed at this point in Paul’s letter. II. Verses 2&3 - We do not know everything about our future, but it is clear that we will have leadership positions over the world and the angels. III. Verse 4 - If things come up “in this life” that require judgment set someone in the Church to make the judgment. IV. Verses 3&4 – In “things pertaining to this life” the least esteemed saved person is more qualified to make a correct judgment that the most qualified unsaved person. V. This applies to all things not just differences between Brothers. VI. Verses 5&6 - The phrase “before unbelievers” in verse 6 suggests that when we debate our issues in front of others, we hurt our own testimony as a Church. VII. Verse 7 - It is better to lose what is rightfully yours than to lower yourself and the testimony of the Church to the world’s methods. VIII. Verse 8 – This type of friction does indicate one thing. Somebody is trying to cheat somebody. That is the problem.
